KS3
All students study the key areas of Number; Shape, Space and Measure; Algebra & Data Handling.
They build on the mathematical skills and knowledge acquired in Key Stage 2, becoming more fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time and lay the foundations for GCSE.
KS4
GCSE Mathematics The study of mathematics at Key Stage 4 is compulsory for all pupils. It is a subject that opens doors to employment and further/higher educational courses and opportunities to learn about the relevance of mathematics to every- day life. It develops a host of skills that include problem-solving, logic and reasoning, and attention to detail. The GCSE course followed is CCEA Mathematics This examination has two tiers.
Candidates are assessed by sitting two module papers; one in Year 11 and one in Year 12. |
GCSE Further Mathematics Further Mathematics is offered as an optional subject intended to cater for those pupils who require knowledge beyond that provided by the GCSE Higher Tier syllabus and who are capable of working beyond the limits of the existing GCSE Higher Mathematics syllabus. The subject is designed to broaden the mathematical experience of high attaining pupils.It introduces some of the mechanics and statistics topics that students encounter in GCE Mathematics and acts as a ‘stepping stone’ between GCSE and GCE. Assessment is by means of the CCEA GCSE Further Mathematics examination. This is comprised of two written papers, each 1 hour long, as follows:
Paper 1 – Pure Mathematics;
Paper 2 – Mechanics and Statistics.

Entry Level Numeracy This CCEA awarded qualification is studied in Year 11 by those students who will progress to study Application of Number the following year. Assessment is by means of interviews and a completed booklet of numeracy activities. |
KS5
The syllabus taught for AS and A2 level is the CCEA modular scheme. It is comprised of 3 modules for AS level and a further 3 for A-Level. The modules have equal weighting. |
