Technology and Design is a vitally important area of the school curriculum providing excellent career opportunities for students. It aims to provide situations where young people can explore the possibilities which technology offers and use the processes of designing to create imaginative solutions to practical problems.

The resources of the Technology & Design department provide an opportunity for students to work in an atmosphere alive with activities.

In the T&D Suite we have a comprehensive range of up to date machines and equipment allowing us the opportunity to study this interesting yet demanding subject.  Our facilities include Computers, CNC milling machines, CNC Label Cutting devices, Scanning equipment, MIG welding bays, pneumatic and electronics kits.

The Department includes 3 workshops fully fitted with machines, 2 Planning rooms, 1 large Design/Systems room and 3 stores for materials and equipment.

Technology and Design prepares pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. They learn to think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life. The subject calls for pupils to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, as individuals and members of a team. They must look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products and systems. They combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices. As they do so, they reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, its uses and effects. Through design and technology, all pupils can become discriminating and informed users of products, and become innovators.
