Equivalent in size to one A Level – 4 units
3 units are mandatory and 2 are external

Content:

Unit 1 – Children’s Development (mandatory and external)
Written examination - set and marked by Pearson – 1 hour 45 minutes – 90 marks
Unit 2 – Development of Children’s Communication, Literacy and Numeracy Skills (mandatory and external)
Task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions.
In Part A, learners will be provided with a case study of a centre two days before a supervised assessment period in order to carry out the research.
In Part B, the supervised assessment period is 3 hours in a period timetabled by Pearson – 68 marks
Unit 3 – Play and Learning (Mandatory and Synoptic and internal)
This unit requires learners to apply learning from across the qualification to the completion of a defined vocational task
Plus, one optional unit (internal)
Work Placement Requirements:

Minimum Length 50 hours
Setting requirements – at least one setting, with children from birth to seven years 11 months
