Eco Code
All pupils had an input in deciding the key points that we want to focus on and then the design selected was by Annie Traynor. The Eco Code is displayed in all classrooms and offices.
Our School Eco Committee
Competition Time!
A number of KS3 classes in the Geography and Science departments recently entered a competition organised by the Housing Executive's Sustainable Development Unit in collaboration with Eco-Schools NI to design an Eco Villain.
Huge congratulations to Alise Avena in 8PH who was selected as one of the 5 winners from 1700 entries. Alise won a laptop for herself and £500 prize for the school. An illustrator has turned her design into an animated character that will be used as part of a comic strip.

The Awards Presentation were held on Monday in Malone House, Belfast and Alise is pictured receiving her eco-laptop and case from Gemma Cowles of the Housing Executive Sustainable Development Unit. Also pictured is Alise's very proud mother and Mrs McLoughlin, her geography teacher.
Litter Less Campaign
Big congratulations to 10NC who were successful in the Less Litter Campaign. They took part in this competition through Eco Schools NI and have recently won £200 for our school. As a reward for their participation and effort, they enjoyed hot chocolate and treats in the school canteen. Thank you to David and the staff for providing the lovely treats, it was greatly appreciated by the pupils.
Battery Recycling
Last year we recycled 36kg of batteries. With your help we hope to exceed this amount this year! Please continue to bring in batteries for recycling and keep them out of general waste and landfill. Battery Collection Point is in Geography Room 1. Do your bit for the environment!
Bird Feeders
Our Eco Club members have been very busy making bird feeders and stocking up food supplies for the wild birds in our school grounds.

Adopt a Spot Project
The Eco Club members are taking part in the Eco Schools "Adopt a Spot" Project and have decided to adopt the Park and Ride as it is local and within walking distance of our school. They will undertake several clean up sessions over the coming months. Mid Ulster Council are providing the pupils with litter pickers and high vis bibs for this task.
Recycling Single Use Plastics
A bottle collection took place over a school week, and all bottles were recycled. This raised our awareness about our overuse of single plastics. Following on from this, all pupils were provided with a reuseable bottle from Water NI as part of their Refillution Campaign, supplied by Anna Killen from Water NI.
