The Spirit of Paul Mc Girr was established in 2007, on the 10th anniversary of Paul's untimely death. The aim of the charity is to work closely with projects already underway in various parts of Africa, namely Zambia, which have been set up by the SMA Missionary priests. During his teenage years Paul spent many happy summers at Dromantine Boys camps. The ethos of the SMA Fathers and their work in the developing world was instilled in Paul and was very close to his heart. Paul was a past pupil of St Ciaran's College.
In support of the charity which was established in his name, the Geography department in St Ciaran's have donated a collection of textbooks for use in schools across Africa. The books were collected by his sister Fionnuala Colton, also a past pupil. St Ciaran's are delighted to be able to support such a worthy charity. It was also a lovely opportunity to catch up with Fionnuala again.
