IMPORTANT SUBJECT DETAILS


Business Studies

  • GCSE - one external written exam lasting 1 hour 20 minutes. 35% of overall GCSE.

  • BTEC – 2 portfolio units completed in Year 11.

English

  • 11AC, 11ML, 11PC and 11SO will complete an English Literature exam worth 10% of their GCSE in June 2017.

  • They will also complete Controlled Assessment Tasks worth 25% of their English Literature GCSE in November and December this year.

  • All pupils will complete Controlled Assessment in English Language worth 10% of the GCSE in January and February of 2017.

French

  • Two Controlled Assessment Tasks worth 15% of the GCSE completed in terms 2 and 3 of Year 11.

Geography

Unit 1: Understanding Our Natural World

  • Unit 1 exam – May/June 2017.

  • Exam: 1 hour 30 minutes.

  • This examination paper is worth 37.5% of the overall GCSE qualification.

Unit 3 – Controlled Assessment

  • Field-trip for data collection – May/June 2017.

  • This task will be worth 25% of the overall GCSE qualification (will be completed in Year 12).

History

  • Unit 1 exam in June 2017 worth 50% of GCSE.

  • Pupils will be tested regularly throughout the year.

  • Controlled Assessment preparation begins in June 2017.

ICT

  • Unit 1 - Controlled Assessment

    • Software: Database, Spreadsheet and Presentation

    • Duration: 22.5 hours

    • Submission: April 2017 for all Year 11 ICT students. 

    • Weighting: 30%

    • Students will receive a mark and a grade.

  • Five Formative Assessments based on ICT theory

* Year 11 ICT students will always have revision notes to learn as homework throughout the year.

Irish

  • Controlled Assessement 1 (15% of GCSE)  mid-February 2107.

  • Controlled Assessment 2 (15% of GCSE) June 2017.

Maths

  • Maths T5/T6 Friday 2nd June 2017morning exam

  • January 2018 T5/T6 repeat

  • June 2018 Final exam, either T1, T2, T3, T4.

Media Studies

  • YEAR 11 Media Studies students will take part in a Cinemagic workshop on Tuesday 18th October in St. Ciaran’s.

  • They will complete two of their three coursework assignments in Year 11 and will have one final exam at the end of Year 12.

Princes Trust

  • The Prince’s Trust Award, (level 2), in Personal Development and Employability Skills (PDE) recognises a breadth of personal skills, qualities and attitudes required by employers across a range of sectors.

  • Level 2 is equivalent to 2 GCSE’S A* - C grade.

  • The students will complete 7 units over the two years, four in year 11 (weighting 60%) and three in year 12 (weighting 40%).

  • Year 11 units; Participating in Sport, Teamwork, Interpersonal skills, Career Planning.

RE

  • GCSE exam in May of Year 11 – 2017 worth 50% of GCSE.

  • Muiredach Cross Award (11AM) – continuous assessment based upon a range of school and community activities.

Science (Double Award)

  • Three module exams, each worth 11% of GCSE are sat in November, February and May of Year 11.

  • Coursework preparation may take place in June of Year 11.

Science (Single Award)

  • A module exam, worth 25% of GCSE is sat in February of Year 11.

  • Preparation for the second module exam, which is sat in November of Year 12, is done for the remainder of Year 11.
